One of the favorite gadgets in the IT department is the Sonos wireless music system. Sonos makes internet-connected speakers that can coordinate with other local Sonos speakers to create a multi-room "party-mode" listening experience using wireless networking. Or, you can listen to your music in any Sonos-equipped room of your residence, while other family members enjoy their own music in their own Sonos zones.
Sonos makes a great smartphone app to control their speakers, which gives you many ways to enjoy music. You can play music stored on a local computer, or use online streaming internet music services such as Pandora, Spotify or the new Apple Music subscription service for millions of different songs and custom playlists.
Recently, Sonos released an auto-calibration feature for their speakers that will optimize the speaker sound for any room environment. These speakers are portable enough to be moved to wherever you want tunes, and the quality is surprisingly good from such a small package.
